Rene Rusjan and Bostjan Potokar are two Slovenian artists, colleagues since their student days and life partners. Together, they founded the Galerija GT Cultural Association (1988), the Famul Stuart School of Applied Arts in Ljubljana (1994) and co-created The new School of Arts of the University of Nova Gorica (2009). Together, they also created many art study programmes for the both schools.
They often collaborate also as artists.
The project The LOOKS is a traveling project in progress. We started it in 2001 in a small town of Southern Italy and performed it later in France, Poland, Norway and Slovenia. In different situations the project The LOOKS appears in slightly modified forms. We adapt it to the situation in order to expose specific and general questions within the terms of ‘we’ vs. ‘them’ and try to find the ‘we’ and ‘us’ aspect.
We bring pictures of the eyes of people we personally know and stick them to the walls of our host town. We try to find their ‘pairs’ on the streets of the neighborhood. What happens is that the people whose’ eyes seemed so threatening, become less strange and more friendly… they got personalities, being in pairs with the locals. When we did the project for the first time, we were surprised by the reactions of the locals. It was a great push for starting a face to face communication with them. We decided to continue.
This time we will adapt to the theme The Same Rain the Same Wind and explore the streets of Chiang Mai.
