Boštjan Potokar presents a continuation of the project he’s been working on for a few years already. The installation is called View Interception. It’s about placing names of cities, towns and villages according to their real geographic locations. In the middle, we see the name of the place where the artist is currently located. He puts himself into the intercepting point of these geographical latitudes, making it the center point from the artist’s point of view. He turns the exhibition space into the center of the world, and on the straight lines across the room in all four directions- north, south, east and west- we find names with real locations. The viewer has the opportunity to check the correctness of the artist’s selection. The author says: „I started the project called „Center-decessis punctum aspectorum“ in the early nineties, with the strong ascension of the nationalistic movements in Europe. All of them were based on the superiority of someone geographially far away. Even collective pronouns were taken over from the geographical terms: souther, eastern, the northerners… With this work, the artist’s personal point of view, Chiang Mai becomes the center of the world.
