Concept Of Art
Malaysia is a nation ruled by the same political party for over 30 years. What left behind is the slow progress in economy, culture, human right, democracy, racial, environment and so on. On top of that, the repeated ‘comedy series’ acted by the local politicians can be seen in all medias. I enjoy it very much. Thus, local political issue in related to people’s daily life has become most of my subject matter.
I like to use lines as my major element in my painting. They help to create interesting texture and visual tension to the realistic painted object. Symbolic images often turns up in my paintings too.
Ng Bee lives in a small fishing village called Sasaran, a suburb area in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Residents there are living in a harmony yet simple life if compared to the chaotic city life in Kuala Lumpur which located about 80 km from my home.
In his earlier days, Ng Bee studied in Nanyang Academy Of Art in Singapore and went to Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux in Paris in late 70’s. In early 80’s he came back to set up his family and studio in Sasaran. Over 40 years living in Sasaran as a lonely visual artist has motivated him to contribute for her. Finally, he decided to bring art to everybody in Sasaran. In 2008, he organized 1st Sasaran International Art Workshop after 2 years preparation. The success has brought to the Sasaran International Arts Festival 2011.
Ng Bee has influenced the non artist residents in Sasaran to contribute in Sasaran Art Asociation. They have hosted 60 international artists for about 2 weeks. The artists have produced more than 200 art works in painting, installation art, sculpture and video. Ng Bee and the residents wanted to sustain Sasaran Art Village for the rest o their life.
Besides as an activist in community art event, he spend most of his time painting, exhibiting and traveling in Asia and Europe regions.
